Our Taap review: is the subscription worth it?
- 10 min read
There’s no question that the Our Taap Home Water System II is appealing.

Filtered water straight from the mains. Hot, chilled or ambient water on demand. No filter jugs to refill, no kettle to boil, no limescale and no more heavy bottled water on the shopping list (if you're so inclined).
What’s not to like?
The bigger question is whether you want to pay for it every month.
Our Taap is a little different from simply buying a water filter. You hire the machine, they install it, send out the replacement filters and UV lamps, and take care of repairs and servicing while you’re subscribed.
The trade-off is that the machine never becomes yours.
So, is the convenience worth the ongoing cost?
We looked at the specs, pricing, subscription terms and 100 Our Taap customer reviews to work out who this system really suits — and who might be better off buying something else.
Quick verdict
Our Taap makes most sense if you want a really easy, hands-off way to get better-tasting hot and cold filtered water at home.
The system is professionally connected to your mains water supply, filters and UV lamps are sent automatically, engineer visits are included and Our Taap will even reinstall the machine if you move house.
And based on the 100 customer reviews we analysed, that service side of the business appears to be one of its strongest points.
The trade-off is cost and ownership.
At the end of a hire agreement, you haven’t bought an appliance. You've paid for a service — one or two years of filtered water, installation, maintenance, replacement filters and support.
For a lot of households that could feel well worth it (especially if you already spend money on bottled water).
If you’d rather buy once, keep the machine for years and are happy to order in filters and take care of maintenance yourself, there are better-value alternatives.
Best for: People who value convenience and want installation, maintenance and support taken care of.
Probably not for: Anyone who dislikes subscriptions, wants to own their appliance or wants the cheapest option.
What exactly is Our Taap?
The Our Taap Home Water System II is a mains-connected countertop water dispenser.
Unlike a water filter jug or refillable countertop machine, it connects directly to your cold-water supply and produces filtered water whenever you need it.
The machine offers 50 temperature settings, from chilled water through to boiling, as well as preset dispensing volumes and a hot-water child lock.
That effectively gives you a water filter, chilled-water dispenser and kettle in one machine.
Our Taap uses a multi-stage filtration system combined with UV treatment. The company says its filtration reduces chlorine, microplastics and various other contaminants while deliberately retaining minerals including calcium, magnesium and potassium.
Does Our Taap help with hard water and limescale?
Our Taap keeps calcium and magnesium in the water rather than stripping them out. These minerals are useful for the body and help give water a more natural taste.
Instead of removing them, the filter uses a polyphosphate layer to help stop those minerals binding together and forming limescale.
So it doesn’t soften the water — it helps manage the scale.
We use reverse osmosis water at home, and while RO removes much more, it can taste a little flatter because so many minerals are taken out.
Our Taap takes a different approach: keep the minerals, keep the taste and nutritional value, while helping to control limescale.
How much does Our Taap cost?
There are several ways to get the machine and at the time of writing, the 24 month plan is probably the most appealing.
First two months: £20 per month
Following 22 months: £36 per month
Professional installation: free
That makes the total subscription cost about £830 over 24 months.
Broken down monthly, £36 doesn't sound enormous — particularly for something you’ll use multiple times every day.
And if you're currently buying bottled water, it could potentially replace an existing monthly expense rather than simply adding another one.
But there's one important thing to understand: You’re hiring the machine and you won’t own it at the end.
Therefore you’re not paying for an appliance, you're paying for a service.
That service includes the machine itself, replacement filters and ongoing support.
For the right customer, that's actually the appeal.
What does the Our Taap subscription include?
The best thing about the Our Taap subscription is how little you have to think about once the machine is installed.
Subscription customers get:
use of the Home Water System II
replacement filters sent automatically every six months
a replacement UV kit every 12 months
technician call-outs
repairs
a replacement machine if it can’t be fixed
reinstallation if you move home
The nice thing is that there shouldn’t be much to remember or organise yourself.
You don’t need to keep track of when the filter is due, hunt down the right replacement or worry about a call-out bill if the machine develops a fault. The filters arrive when you need them, and Our Taap says changing one takes around a minute.
If something goes wrong, you call them. If an engineer needs to come out, that’s included. If the machine can’t be repaired, they replace it. And if you move house, they’ll reinstall it at your new address.
That’s really what the subscription is selling: ease and predictability.
You’re not just paying for filtered water. You’re paying to have one company take care of the machine from installation onwards, without a load of little extra costs or jobs cropping up later.
If you want great filtered water without having to think about filters, servicing or what happens if something breaks, this is where Our Taap really makes sense.
Is Our Taap installation good value?
Our Taap connects directly to your mains water supply, so this isn't quite the same as buying a countertop filter and plugging it in yourself.
The company says its technicians connect the system to your existing plumbing and that most installations take under an hour.
Running a plumbing company ourselves, I'd expect a comparable visit from an independent plumber to cost somewhere around £120–£200, depending on the property's plumbing set up and what kind of surface that needs to be drilled through.
So the Our Taap installation prices look reasonable.
And on the current 24-month offer, installation is free.
It's also one of the areas where the customer reviews were particularly reassuring.
What do Our Taap customers say?
We analysed 100 recent Our Taap Trustpilot reviews to see what customers actually thought about buying from the company.
The results were extremely positive.
96 of the 100 reviews were five-star, with just four one-star reviews in our sample.
What really stood out in the reviews was how often customers talked about the experience of buying from Our Taap.
Most of the feedback focuses on the sales team, installation and customer service rather than detailed comments about the machine itself. For this review, that’s actually useful, because with a subscription product you’re not just choosing the appliance — you’re choosing the company that will be looking after it too.
Installation gets a lot of praise
Installation was one of the strongest recurring themes.
Customers regularly described engineers as:
punctual
friendly
tidy
knowledgeable
helpful
Several reviewers said installation took somewhere around 30–45 minutes and that the engineer demonstrated how the machine worked before leaving.
Customer service also looks strong
A large number of reviewers praised individual Our Taap staff members for explaining the options clearly, answering questions and making the sign-up process straightforward.
There were also reassuring examples of aftercare, including engineers returning to resolve faults, machine replacements and help when customers moved home.
For a subscription product, that's arguably more important than it would be for something you simply bought from Amazon.
You're relying on the company to look after the machine for potentially several years.
But there is one thing to keep in mind.
Most of the reviews were written around the point of purchase or installation, so they tell us much more about what Our Taap is like to buy from than what it is like to live with long term.
That means there is less feedback on reliability, cancellation and whether the subscription still feels worth it further down the line.
There were four one-star reviews in our sample, covering issues with communication, installation and support, but against 96 five-star reviews, they were very much the exception.
Is paying £36 a month for Our Taap worth it?
There are two perfectly reasonable answers here:
Yes — if you're paying for ease
Imagine this instead of thinking purely about the machine:
Someone installs it.
You turn the tap and get filtered chilled water.
Press another button and get hot water.
No more waiting for water to boil.
No more dealing with limescale in your kettle.
Every six months the replacement filter arrives.
Every year the UV kit arrives.
If something breaks, you call Our Taap.
If the machine needs replacing, they deal with it.
If you move house, they reinstall it.
That's a pretty compelling service for around £36 a month. If you're also replacing bottled water purchases, the maths becomes even easier to justify.
For a busy household that values convenience, I can absolutely see why the subscription is worth it.
Maybe not — if you think of it as buying a water filter
Over the current 24-month deal, you’ll spend a little over £830.
At the end of those two years, the machine still belongs to Our Taap. If you want to keep using it, you carry on paying. If you don’t, they collect it.
Of course, that monthly payment covers a lot — the machine itself, replacement filters and UV lamps, repairs, call-outs and ongoing support.
If you like having all of that taken care of, the subscription makes sense.
But if you’d rather buy once, own the machine and are happy to manage filters and maintenance yourself, buying outright could work out much better over the longer term.
Who is Our Taap best for?
I'd seriously consider Our Taap if you:
want hot and chilled filtered water available instantly
don't want to keep filling a countertop tank
currently buy a lot of bottled water
want your machine professionally installed
don't want to organise filter replacements or servicing
value having one company responsible if anything goes wrong
like the taste of mineral-containing water
don't mind paying monthly for convenience
In short, it's probably best for someone who wants the easiest possible filtered-water setup.
Who should probably avoid it?
I'd look elsewhere if you:
don’t like recurring subscriptions
want to own your appliance
are comfortable installing or maintaining a system yourself
want reverse osmosis filtration
specifically want to remove calcium and magnesium from your drinking water
expect to keep the same machine for many years and minimise long-term costs
There are cheaper routes to excellent filtered water — they just require a little more involvement from you.
Our Taap alternatives
There are other countertop systems that offer stronger filtration.
The difference is that you’ll need to take care of more yourself — including arranging installation where needed, buying replacement filters and paying for any repairs once the warranty ends.
Osmio Fusion — probably the closest alternative
If you like the idea of Our Taap but the thought of paying every month forever-ish makes you twitch a little, the Osmio Fusion is probably the closest alternative.

It’s also a countertop, mains-connected machine with hot and cold filtered water on demand, so in terms of how you actually use it day to day, it’s a very similar machine.
The big difference is ownership.
You pay around £495 for the Osmio, allow roughly £120 for installation, then around £100 a year for replacement filters. It also comes with a three-year warranty.
It uses reverse osmosis too, so it removes far more from the water, including the calcium and magnesium that cause hard water.
How does the price compare with OurTaap 24?
Over the first two years, surprisingly, there’s almost nothing in it.
Our Taap 24: around £832
Osmio Fusion: around £815, including installation and two years of filters
So you’re saving less than £20 with the Osmio at that point. But two years is where the comparison gets more interesting.
With Our Taap, you’ve paid your £800+ and the machine still belongs to them.
With Osmio, you still have the machine sitting on your worktop.
If it keeps going happily for three, four or five years, you’re then mainly paying for filters, so the savings can start to build quite quickly.
That’s why I wouldn’t choose Osmio because it’s cheaper right now. I’d choose it if I wanted a similar setup, stronger filtration and the chance to get much better value out of it over the longer term.
Waterdrop A2 — better if you don’t mind refilling it
The Waterdrop A2 is a cheaper alternative if you don’t need something plumbed directly into the mains.
It costs around £400, gives you hot and cold filtered water on demand and uses reverse osmosis.

We use this one ourselves (check out our A2 review). The main downside compared with Our Taap is that you have to empty the wastewater and refill the tank manually.
There’s no installation cost, though, and the filter only needs changing around once a year, at roughly £70.
How does the price compare with Our Taap 24?
Over two years:
Our Taap 24: around £832
Waterdrop A2: around £540, including two annual filter changes
That makes the A2 around £290 cheaper over two years, and you own it at the end.
So there’s a much clearer saving here. The question is whether saving nearly £300 is worth the extra job of filling and emptying the tank yourself.
We rate Waterdrop as a brand too. We analysed 100 Waterdrop reviews and found very strong overall feedback, particularly for the products themselves and the support customers received when something went wrong.
Our Taap review: our verdict
For me, the biggest question with Our Taap isn't really whether the machine is good. Hot and cold filtered water straight from the mains, without filling tanks or boiling a kettle, is obviously useful.
It's whether you want to pay around £36 a month for someone else to take care of everything.
Our Taap installs the machine, sends the replacement filters and UV lamps, deals with repairs and will even reinstall it if you move house. And from the 100 customer reviews we analysed, that side of the service looks reassuringly good, with lots of praise for the installers and customer support.
If you're someone who wants filtered water with as little faff as possible, I can really see the appeal.
The downside is that over the 24-month deal you'll pay more than £800 and you still won't own the machine at the end.
So I don't think Our Taap is the cheapest way to get great filtered water at home. But it might be one of the easiest.
And if you're happy to pay a bit more each month to have the installation, maintenance and problems taken care of for you, I think the subscription makes a lot of sense.
